Description : Very richly worked mourning ring. Band with double borders on either side: a thin plain gold outer border with scalloped / crimped edge and a cylindrical, wider inner border, beautifully worked in repousse flowers and scrolls.
A recessed band of black enamel in the center with gold lettering IN MEMORY OF with a small asterisk or flower. The recessing of the enamel has protected it from excessive wear or damage, which is a clever design feature as well as adding to the subtle attraction of the ring. This is a particularly beautiful example of mourning jewelry. Marks and Metal: Inscribed inside the band with the name of the deceased (appears to be) Mrs Sarah Dibmore Obt 18 Feb 1830 Aet 45 (age).There follows a very full set of London Hallmarks. Maker is TR or TD, monarch's head facing right, Crown (for the gold standard of 18), 18 - again for the gold standard, leopard's head (for London) and date leatter O for 1829.
