Antique Georgian mourning ring, hairwork, black enamel, 12ct gold
A beautiful antique Georgian era mourning ring. The gorgeous ring has a central panel with a glazed hairwork compartment, enclosing a fine braid of light brown hair. Surrounding the hair is a fine bezel frame of yellow gold and then a halo of rich black enamel, the two colours contrasting beautifully, the outer rim is made from engraved and embossed gold with a typical Georgian style to it. One of the things I love the most about this ring is the decorative scrolling shoulders and the gadrooned gold band which provides the look of a double band.
It is unmarked with a closed back setting, the band tests at approx 12ct gold. A charming antique mourning ring. English make, early 19th century, Georgian era. Very Good used condition overall, some age commensurate surface wear and overall patina. EU ring size 51.87.
Total weight 1.93 grams. Approx 9mm length ring head, 11mm width of ring head and 2mm band width.
