EARLY VICTORIAN MOURNING HAIR BROOCH. Very fine quality antique mourning brooch with a central sardonyx hardstone cameo carved with a forget me not flower. This has a wonderful double halo of tiny seed pearls which contrast beautifully with the gold and black enamel.
The back has a hair locket and dedication to two McMillan brothers James and Gilbert. One died on the 5th Oct 1839 the other 8th Sept 1842. This is one of the finest mourning brooches of this kind I have seen. A wonderful piece of jewellery and in remarkable condition for over 180 year old. Box is not included in the sale.
