Vintage 14K Yellow Gold Black Enamel Assam Regiment Rhino Brooch

  

A vintage, black enamel, and yellow gold brooch, comprising a rhino depicted in black enamel, in 14 karat yellow gold, with 14 karat yellow gold brooch pin and fittings. The brooch is formed as a rhino, with a banner underneath displaying the words Assam Regt. This brooch depicts the emblem of the Assam Regiment, which is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army, with their insignia being the one horned rhino. The Assam Regiment was raised in June 1941, to counter the threat of the Japanese invasion of India.

The brooch is adorned with black enamel, with unenamelled sections of gold used to pick out the details of the rhino. The brooch is fitted with a C-shaped catch, and the brooch pin and fittings are in yellow gold. The brooch is in good condition, with small amounts of wear to the enamel, and some small chips, most notably on the rhinos back. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.

The brooch measures 20mm high, and 40.5mm wide. The brooch measures 3mm deep, excluding pin and fittings. Hallmarks: stamped'14ct' (14 karat gold), bearing indistinct makers mark, circa 1945.
